Description

Sediment in water is any transported particulate matter that is deposited as a layer of solid sediment in the water. Usually in mains water, when there is a sediment problem, these particles come from the deterioration of the water pipes, which generates small particles of organic material, sand or clay that are carried with the water into the house. One of the most visible effects when there is a large amount of sediment in the water is that it no longer presents a crystalline image and loses transparency. This is what is known as turbid water or turbidity in the water. It can be defined that the function of the sediment filter is the reduction of floating particles in the water of a size that will depend on the type of filter, that allows to improve notably the problems of turbidity of the water and serves as protection of the following filters of the installation (osmosis equipment, water softeners, …), or of the rest of equipment connected to the water of network like washing machines, dishwasher, etc… Its use as the only filtering element is not usually sufficient to improve all water parameters but it is essential in any system. Depending on the size of the particles that the filters are capable of retaining, they will be classified according to the number of microns of maximum diameter that they will allow to pass. For example, a 50 micron filter will allow only particles smaller than 50 microns to pass through, retaining all particles larger than 50 microns. The duration of the cartridges will depend on the quality and quantity of water passing through the filter. The lower the quality, the shorter the cartridge will last.
